如是我聞:一時佛在舍衛國 祇樹給孤獨園


爾時波斯匿王在空閑處獨靜思惟:

「夫為人者,云何愛己,云何惡己?」

復作是念:

「若身、口、意行於善業,遠離諸惡,名是愛己;若身、口、意行不善業,作眾惡行,名不愛己。」

波斯匿王思惟是已,從靜處起,往詣佛所,頂禮佛足,在一面坐,即白佛言:

「世尊!我獨靜處,作是思惟: 『云何名愛己,云何不愛己?若能於身、口、意行善,是名愛己;若身、口、意行不善業,名不愛己。』 」

佛言:

「 大王!實爾。若人身、口、意行惡者,是名不愛己。何以故?彼為惡者,雖有怨讎,不必速能有所傷害。自造惡業,毀害甚深,是以自作惡業,名為不愛己。又有為己,故作殺、盜、婬,是為損己。若人身、口、意行善者,設作是念: 『我捨所愛──居家、妻子。』 名不愛己,實是愛己。何以故?如此之人,雖有親友、父母、兄弟,恩徹骨髓,至其衰老,不能 * 得救。要自身、口、意修行善,能自濟度,是名愛己。」

佛即說偈言:

若人自愛己    不以惡加彼
無有造作惡    得於快樂者
若人自愛己    應修諸善業
速疾能獲得    種種諸快樂
夫欲愛己者    應當自擁護
譬如邊表城    曠野多賊盜
得值無難時    應當自隱藏
若其失無難    值難苦無窮


佛說是已,諸比丘聞佛所說,歡喜奉行。

如是我聞:一時佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。


時波斯匿王獨一靜處,禪思思惟,作是念:

「云何為自念,云何為不自念?」

復作是念:

「若有行身惡行,行口惡行,行意惡行者,當知斯等為不自念;若復行身善行,行口善行,行意善行者,當知斯等則為自念。」

從禪覺已,往詣佛所,稽首佛足,退住一面,白佛言:

「世尊!我於靜處獨一思惟,作是念: 『云何為自念?云何為不自念?』 復作是念: 『若有行身惡行,行口惡行,行意惡行者,當知斯等為不自念;若復行身善行,行口善行,行意善行者,當知斯等則為自念。』 」

佛告大王:

「如是,大王!如是,大王!若有行身惡行,行口惡行,行意惡行者,當知斯等為不自念。彼雖自謂為自愛念,而實非自念。所以者何?無有惡知識所作惡不念者,所不念不愛者,所不愛所作如其自為自己所作者。是故斯等為不自念。若復──大王!──行身善行,行口善行,行意善行者,當知斯等則為自念。斯等自謂不自愛惜己身,然其斯等實為自念。所以者何?無有善友於善友所作念者,念作愛者,愛作如自為己所作者。是故斯等則為自念。」

爾時世尊復說偈言:

謂為自念者    不應造惡行
終不因惡行    令得安樂
謂為自念者    終不造惡行
造諸善業者    令得安樂
若自愛念者    善護而自護
如善護國王    外防邊境城
若自愛念者    極善自寶藏
如善守之王    內防邊境城
如是自寶藏    剎那無間缺
剎那缺致憂    惡道長受苦


佛說此經已,波斯匿王聞佛所說,歡喜隨喜,作禮而去。

Piyasuttaṃ

Sāvatthinidānaṃ Ekamantaṃ nisinno kho rājā pasenadi kosalo bhagavantaṃ etadavoca “idha mayhaṃ, bhante, rahogatassa paṭisallīnassa evaṃ cetaso parivitakko udapādi– ‘kesaṃ nu kho piyo attā, kesaṃ appiyo attā’ti? Tassa mayhaṃ, bhante, etadahosi–

‘ye ca kho keci kāyena duccaritaṃ caranti, vācāya duccaritaṃ caranti, manasā duccaritaṃ caranti; tesaṃ appiyo attā’. Kiñcāpi te evaṃ vadeyyuṃ– ‘piyo no attā’ti, atha kho tesaṃ appiyo attā.

Taṃ kissa hetu? Yañhi appiyo appiyassa kareyya, taṃ te attanāva attano karonti; tasmā tesaṃ appiyo attā. Ye ca kho keci kāyena sucaritaṃ caranti, vācāya sucaritaṃ caranti, manasā sucaritaṃ caranti; tesaṃ piyo attā. Kiñcāpi te evaṃ vadeyyuṃ– ‘appiyo no attā’ti; atha kho tesaṃ piyo attā. Taṃ kissa hetu? Yañhi piyo piyassa kareyya, taṃ te attanāva attano karonti; tasmā tesaṃ piyo attā”ti.

“Evametaṃ, mahārāja, evametaṃ, mahārāja! Ye hi keci, mahārāja, kāyena duccaritaṃ caranti, vācāya duccaritaṃ caranti, manasā duccaritaṃ caranti; tesaṃ appiyo attā. Kiñcāpi te evaṃ vadeyyuṃ– ‘piyo no attā’ti, atha kho tesaṃ appiyo attā.

“Attānañce piyaṃ jaññā, na naṃ pāpena saṃyuje;
na hi taṃ sulabhaṃ hoti, sukhaṃ dukkaṭakārinā.
“Antakenādhipannassa, jahato mānusaṃ bhavaṃ;
kiñhi tassa sakaṃ hoti, kiñca ādāya gacchati;
kiñcassa anugaṃ hoti, chāyāva anapāyinī [var] .
“Ubho puññañca pāpañca, yaṃ macco kurute idha;
tañhi tassa sakaṃ hoti, tañca [var] Ādāya gacchati;
tañcassa [var] Anugaṃ hoti, chāyāva anapāyinī.
“Tasmā kareyya kalyāṇaṃ, nicayaṃ samparāyikaṃ;
puññāni paralokasmiṃ, patiṭṭhā honti pāṇinan”tntti.
