如是我聞:一時佛在舍衛國 祇樹給孤獨園


爾時有一摩納,名 * * 北伽,往詣佛所,稽首問訊,在一面坐,白佛言:

「世尊!婆羅門如法乞財,聚設大祀,教他設祀。如是之祀,為當作祀,為當不作?」

爾時世尊說偈答言:

馬脂及人脂    牛脂并美食
吸風開祀門    此六名大祀
作業雖廣大    仙聖所毀呰
[牛*羊]羊及羖羊    牛王諸小牛
一切殺生類    此不為正祀
如是是邪祀    眾聖所不過
若設正祀者    終不惱群生
不害有生命    設祀斷諸有
是名為正祀    若設如是祀
大仙必往彼    施及祀 * 場餘
宜與彼應供    清淨心惠施
時施施何處    當施勝福田
云何勝福田    所謂修梵行
若能如是施    斯名廣大祀
設如是大祀    以如法聚財
淨水手自與    若能如是施
諸天生信敬    名為自他利
必獲大果報    如是設大祀
唯有智者能    能生於淨信
亦得心解脫    惱害不能加
得世間眾樂    得生於勝處
是名為智者    所設之大祀


佛說是已, * * 北伽摩納聞佛所說,歡喜而去。

如是我聞:一時佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。


時有年少婆羅門,名優波迦,來詣佛所,與世尊面相問訊,慰勞已,退坐一面,白佛言:

「瞿曇!諸婆羅門常稱歎邪盛大會。沙門瞿曇亦復稱歎邪盛大會不?」

佛告優波迦:

「我不一向稱歎,或有邪盛大會可稱歎,或有邪盛大會不可稱歎?」

優波迦白佛:

「何等邪盛大會可稱歎?何等邪盛大會不可稱歎?」

佛告優波迦:

「若邪盛大會繫群少特牛、水特、水牸及諸羊、犢、小小眾生,悉皆傷殺,逼迫苦切,僕使、作人鞭笞恐怛 ,悲泣號呼,不喜不樂,眾苦作役。如是等邪盛大會,我不稱歎,以造大難故。若復大會不繫縛群牛,……(乃至)不令眾生辛苦作役者,如是邪盛大會,我所稱歎,以不造大難故。」

爾時世尊即說偈言:

馬祀等大會    造諸大難事
如是等邪盛    大仙不稱歎
繫縛諸眾生    殺害微細蟲
是非為正會    大仙不隨順
若不害眾生    造作眾難者
是等名正會    大仙隨稱歎
惠施修供養    為應法邪盛
施者清淨心    梵行良福田
如是大會者    是則羅漢會
是會得大果    諸天皆歡喜
自行恭敬請    自手而施與
彼我悉清淨    是施得大果
慧者如是施    信心應解脫
無罪樂世間    智者往生彼


佛說此經已,優波迦婆羅門聞佛所說,歡喜隨喜,作禮而去。

Ujjayasuttaṃ

Atha kho ujjayo brāhmaṇo yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavatā saddhiṃ sammodi. Sammodanīyaṃ kathaṃ sāraṇīyaṃ vītisāretvā ekamantaṃ nisīdi. Ekamantaṃ nisinno kho ujjayo brāhmaṇo bhagavantaṃ etadavoca– “bhavampi no gotamo yaññaṃ vaṇṇetī”ti “Na kho ahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, sabbaṃ yaññaṃ vaṇṇemi; na panāhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, sabbaṃ yaññaṃ na vaṇṇemi. Yathārūpe kho, brāhmaṇa, yaññe gāvo haññanti, ajeḷakā haññanti, kukkuṭasūkarā haññanti, vividhā pāṇā saṅghātaṃ āpajjanti; evarūpaṃ kho ahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, sārambhaṃ yaññaṃ na vaṇṇemi. Taṃ kissa hetu? Evarūpañhi, brāhmaṇa, sārambhaṃ yaññaṃ na upasaṅkamanti arahanto vā arahattamaggaṃ vā samāpannā.

“Yathārūpe ca kho, brāhmaṇa, yaññe neva gāvo haññanti, na ajeḷakā haññanti, na kukkuṭasūkarā haññanti, na vividhā pāṇā saṅghātaṃ āpajjanti; evarūpaṃ kho ahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, nirārambhaṃ yaññaṃ vaṇṇemi, yadidaṃ niccadānaṃ anukulayaññaṃ. Taṃ kissa hetu? Evarūpañhi, brāhmaṇa, nirārambhaṃ yaññaṃ upasaṅkamanti arahanto vā arahattamaggaṃ vā samāpannā”ti.

“Assamedhaṃ purisamedhaṃ, sammāpāsaṃ vājapeyyaṃ niraggaḷaṃ
mahāyaññā mahārambhā [var] , na te honti mahapphalā.
“Ajeḷakā ca gāvo ca, vividhā yattha haññare;
na taṃ sammaggatā yaññaṃ, upayanti mahesino.
“Ye ca yaññā nirārambhā, yajanti anukulaṃ sadā;
ajeḷakā ca gāvo ca, vividhā nettha haññare [var] ;
tañca sammaggatā yaññaṃ, upayanti mahesino.
“Etaṃ [var] yajetha medhāvī, eso yañño mahapphalo;
etaṃ [var] hi yajamānassa, seyyo hoti na pāpiyo;
yañño ca vipulo hoti, pasīdanti ca devatā”ti.
