如是我聞:一時佛在舍衛國 祇樹給孤獨園


時有一梵,起大邪見,而作是言:

「我此處常,不見有能生於我宮,況復有能過於我上者!」

爾時世尊入 * 於三昧,從閻浮提沒,現於梵頂虛空中坐。尊者憍陳如以淨天眼觀於世尊為至何處,即知如來在梵頂上虛空中坐。時憍陳如亦入是定,於此而沒,現梵頂上,處如來下,在於東面。時尊者摩訶迦葉以淨天眼觀於如來為至何處,尋知世尊在梵頂上,復入此定,於此處沒,在如來下,現梵頂上,在於南面。尊者目連以淨天眼觀於如來為至何處,尋知世尊在梵頂上,即入是定,於此處沒,現梵頂上,處如來下, * 現於西面。時尊者阿那律復以淨天眼觀察如來為至何處,尋知世尊在梵頂上,亦入是定,於此處沒,現梵頂上,處如來下,在於北面。爾時世尊告梵天言:

「汝本所見,為捨 * 已不?」

復告梵天:

「汝本心念: 『我不見有能生我宮者,況能出過!』 汝今試觀此等 * 天身,容貌光明,勝汝 * 已不?」

時梵白佛:

「唯然,已見。而今見之,斯等光明,昔所不見。而今見之,斯等光明,真為殊勝。自今已後,更不敢言『此處常恒,無有變易。』」

佛告梵天:

「此處無常、空、不自在。」

佛為彼梵種種說法,示、教、利、喜,入如是三昧,從彼梵沒,還 * 於祇洹。尊者憍陳如、摩訶迦葉、阿那律等亦為彼梵種種說法,示、教、利、喜,亦入是定,從彼處沒,還 * 於祇洹。唯尊者大目犍連在彼而坐。爾時彼梵問目連言:

「世尊弟子頗有如汝,有大威德神足者不?」

目連答言:

「諸餘聲聞亦有如是威德神足。」

尊者目連即說偈言:

牟尼弟子大羅漢    有大威德具三明
得盡諸漏知他心    能現神變化群生
如是聲聞甚眾多    是故汝今宜恭敬

時尊者目連說是偈已,種種說法,示、教、利、喜,亦入是定,從彼梵沒,還於祇洹。

如是我聞:一時佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。


時有一梵天,住梵天上,起如是邪見,言:

「此處常恒,不變易,純一出離。未曾見有來至此處,況復有過此上者!」

爾時世尊知彼梵天心之所念,即入三昧,如其正受,於舍衛國沒,現梵天宮,當彼梵天頂上於虛空中結跏趺坐,正身繫念。爾時尊者阿若俱隣作是念:

「今日世尊為在何所?」

即以天眼、淨過人間眼觀見世尊在梵天上。見已,即入三昧,如其正受,於舍衛國沒,現彼梵世,在於東方,西面向佛,結跏趺坐,端身繫念,在佛座下,梵天座上。爾時尊者摩訶迦葉作是念:

「今日世尊為在何所?」

即以天眼、淨過於人眼見世尊在梵天上。見已,即入三昧,如其正受,於舍衛國沒,現梵天上,在於南方,北面向佛,結跏趺坐,端身繫念,在佛座下,梵天座上。時尊者舍利弗作是念:

「世尊今者為在何所?」

即以天眼、淨過於人眼見世尊在梵天上。見已,即入三昧,如其正受,於舍衛國沒,住梵天上,在於西方,東面向佛,結跏趺坐,端身繫念,在佛座下,梵天座上。爾時尊者大目揵連即作是念:

「今日世尊為在何所?」

以天眼、淨過於人眼遙見世尊在梵天上。見已,即入三昧,如其正受,於舍衛國沒,住梵天上,在於北方,南面向佛,結跏趺坐,端身繫念,在佛座下,梵天座上。爾時世尊告梵天曰:

「汝今復起是見: 『從本已來,未曾見有過我上者』 不?」

梵天白佛:

「我今不敢復言: 『我未曾見有過我上者。』 唯見梵天光明被障。」

爾時世尊為彼梵天種種說法,示、教、照、喜已,即入三昧,如其正受,於梵天上沒,還舍衛國。尊者阿若俱隣、摩訶迦葉、舍利弗為彼梵天種種說法,示、教、照、喜已,即入三昧,如其正受,於梵天沒,還舍衛國。唯尊者大目揵連仍於彼住。時彼梵天問尊者大目揵連:

「世尊諸餘弟子悉有如是大德大力不?」

時尊者大目揵連即說偈言:

大德具三明    通達觀他心
漏盡諸羅漢    其數無有量


時尊者大目揵連為彼梵天種種說法,示、教、照、喜已,即入三昧,如其正受,於梵天沒,還舍衛國。

Aññatarabrahmasuttaṃ

Sāvatthinidānaṃ

Tena kho pana samayena aññatarassa brahmuno evarūpaṃ pāpakaṃ diṭṭhigataṃ uppannaṃ hoti– “natthi so samaṇo vā brāhmaṇo vā yo idha āgaccheyyā”ti. Atha kho bhagavā tassa brahmuno cetasā cetoparivitakkamaññāya– seyyathāpi nāma balavā puriso…pe… tasmiṃ brahmaloke pāturahosi. Atha kho bhagavā tassa brahmuno upari vehāsaṃ pallaṅkena nisīdi tejodhātuṃ samāpajjitvā.

Atha kho āyasmato mahāmoggallānassa etadahosi– “kahaṃ nu kho bhagavā etarahi viharatī”ti? Addasā kho āyasmā mahāmoggallāno [var] bhagavantaṃ dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkantamānusakena tassa brahmuno upari vehāsaṃ pallaṅkena nisinnaṃ tejodhātuṃ samāpannaṃ. Disvāna– seyyathāpi nāma balavā puriso samiñjitaṃ vā bāhaṃ pasāreyya, pasāritaṃ vā bāhaṃ samiñjeyya evameva– jetavane antarahito tasmiṃ brahmaloke pāturahosi. Atha kho āyasmā mahāmoggallāno puratthimaṃ disaṃ nissāya [var] tassa brahmuno upari vehāsaṃ pallaṅkena nisīdi tejodhātuṃ samāpajjitvā nīcataraṃ bhagavato.

Atha kho āyasmato mahākassapassa etadahosi– “kahaṃ nu kho bhagavā etarahi viharatī”ti? Addasā kho āyasmā mahākassapo bhagavantaṃ dibbena cakkhunā…pe… disvāna– seyyathāpi nāma balavā puriso…pe… evameva– jetavane antarahito tasmiṃ brahmaloke pāturahosi. Atha kho āyasmā mahākassapo dakkhiṇaṃ disaṃ nissāya tassa brahmuno upari vehāsaṃ pallaṅkena nisīdi tejodhātuṃ samāpajjitvā nīcataraṃ bhagavato.

Atha kho āyasmato mahākappinassa etadahosi– “kahaṃ nu kho bhagavā etarahi viharatī”ti? Addasā kho āyasmā mahākappino bhagavantaṃ dibbena cakkhunā…pe… tejodhātuṃ samāpannaṃ. Disvāna– seyyathāpi nāma balavā puriso…pe… evameva– jetavane antarahito tasmiṃ brahmaloke pāturahosi. Atha kho āyasmā mahākappino pacchimaṃ disaṃ nissāya tassa brahmuno upari vehāsaṃ pallaṅkena nisīdi tejodhātuṃ samāpajjitvā nīcataraṃ bhagavato.

Atha kho āyasmato anuruddhassa etadahosi– “kahaṃ nu kho bhagavā etarahi viharatī”ti? Addasā kho āyasmā anuruddho…pe… tejodhātuṃ samāpannaṃ. Disvāna– seyyathāpi nāma balavā puriso…pe… tasmiṃ brahmaloke pāturahosi. Atha kho āyasmā anuruddho uttaraṃ disaṃ nissāya tassa brahmuno upari vehāsaṃ pallaṅkena nisīdi tejodhātuṃ samāpajjitvā nīcataraṃ bhagavato.

Atha kho āyasmā mahāmoggallāno taṃ brahmānaṃ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi–

“Ajjāpi te āvuso sā diṭṭhi, yā te diṭṭhi pure ahu;
passasi vītivattantaṃ, brahmaloke pabhassaran”ti.
“Na me mārisa sā diṭṭhi, yā me diṭṭhi pure ahu;
passāmi vītivattantaṃ, brahmaloke pabhassaraṃ;
svāhaṃ ajja kathaṃ vajjaṃ, ahaṃ niccomhi sassato”ti.

Atha kho bhagavā taṃ brahmānaṃ saṃvejetvā– seyyathāpi nāma balavā puriso samiñjitaṃ vā bāhaṃ pasāreyya, pasāritaṃ vā bāhaṃ samiñjeyya evameva– tasmiṃ brahmaloke antarahito jetavane pāturahosi. Atha kho so brahmā aññataraṃ brahmapārisajjaṃ āmantesi– “ehi tvaṃ, mārisa, yenāyasmā mahāmoggallāno tenupasaṅkama; upasaṅkamitvā āyasmantaṃ mahāmoggallānaṃ evaṃ vadehi– ‘atthi nu kho, mārisa moggallāna, aññepi tassa bhagavato sāvakā evaṃmahiddhikā evaṃmahānubhāvā seyyathāpi bhavaṃ moggallāno kassapo kappino anuruddho”’ti? “Evaṃ, mārisā”ti kho so brahmapārisajjo tassa brahmuno paṭissutvā yenāyasmā mahāmoggallāno tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā āyasmantaṃ mahāmoggallānaṃ etadavoca– “atthi nu kho, mārisa moggallāna, aññepi tassa bhagavato sāvakā evaṃmahiddhikā evaṃmahānubhāvā; seyyathāpi bhavaṃ moggallāno kassapo kappino anuruddho”ti? Atha kho āyasmā mahāmoggallāno taṃ brahmapārisajjaṃ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi–

“Tevijjā iddhipattā ca, cetopariyāyakovidā;
khīṇāsavā arahanto, bahū buddhassa sāvakā”ti.

Atha kho so brahmapārisajjo āyasmato mahāmoggallānassa bhāsitaṃ abhinanditvā anumoditvā yena so brahmā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā taṃ brahmānaṃ etadavoca– “āyasmā mārisa, mahāmoggallāno evamāha–

“Tevijjā iddhipattā ca, cetopariyāyakovidā;
khīṇāsavā arahanto, bahū buddhassa sāvakā”ti.

Idamavoca so brahmapārisajjo. Attamano ca so brahmā tassa brahmapārisajjassa bhāsitaṃ abhinandīti.
