如是我聞:一時佛在王舍城 毘富羅山下。


爾時世尊告諸比丘:

「諸行無常,是生滅法。無有住時,不可保信,是懷敗法。以是義故,汝諸比丘於諸行所應知止足,生厭惡想,離於愛欲,而求解脫。」

復告比丘:

「此毘富羅山往昔之時名曰婆耆半闍。爾時此城名帝彌羅。彼時人民壽四萬歲。諸人民等欲上此山,經於四日然後乃能至彼山頂。時世有佛,號迦孫如來.應供.正遍知.明行足.善逝.世間解.無上士.調御丈夫.天、人師.佛.世尊,為諸弟子而說法要,初、中、後善。其義深遠,其語巧妙,純一無雜,具足清白梵行之相。比丘當知:爾時婆耆半闍山相於今已滅,人民盡死,是佛.世尊入涅槃後,人壽轉減。以是義故,諸行無常,是生滅法。無有住時,不可保信,是壞敗法。是故比丘於諸行所應知止足,生厭惡想,離於愛欲,而求解脫。」

復告比丘:

「乃往昔時此山名曰朋迦。于時此城名阿毘迦。時彼世人壽三萬歲。此諸眾生若欲上山,經於三日便得往還。時世有佛.世尊,號迦那含牟尼如來.應供.正遍知.明行足.善逝.世間解.無上士.調御丈夫.天、人師.佛.世尊。爾時如來普為大眾演說法要。所演說者,初、中、後善。其義深遠,其語巧妙,具足清淨顯發梵行之相。比丘當知:彼佛.世尊入涅槃後,人民轉減。于時山相於今已 * 滅,人民死盡。是故──比丘!──諸行無常,是變易法。不可恃怙,會歸磨滅。汝等應當於諸行所宜知止足,生厭惡想,離於愛欲,而求解脫。」

佛復告諸比丘:

「乃往古昔此山名曰善邊。爾時國土名曰赤馬。于時人民壽二萬歲。當爾之時有佛出世,號曰迦葉如來.應供.正遍知.明行足.善逝.世間解.無上士.調御丈夫.天、人師.佛.世尊,廣為大眾敷演,分別諸法秘奧。其所說者,初、中、後善。其義深遠,其語巧妙,純一無雜,具足清白梵行之相。比丘當知:善邊山名於今已滅,人皆終 * 沒。彼佛.世尊入般涅槃,人命轉減。以是義故,諸行無常,是變易法。無有住時,不可恃怙,會歸磨滅。是故宜應於諸行所生於止足,厭惡之想,離於愛欲,而求解脫。此山今復名毘富羅,而斯國 * 土名摩竭提。是中眾生壽命百年,或增或減。此諸眾生若欲上山,須臾之頃即便往還。我釋迦文出現於世,十號具足,為眾演說無量經典。其所說者,初、中、後善。其義深遠,其語巧妙,純一無雜,具足清白梵行之相。」

復告比丘:

「此山名字,并及國人不久亦當悉皆滅盡。我亦不久當入涅槃。以是義故,諸行無常,是變易法。無有住時,不可恃怙,會歸磨滅。是故──比丘!──宜應至心,於諸行所生止足想,厭惡之心,離於愛欲,而求解脫。」

爾時世尊即說偈言:

婆耆半闍帝彌羅    阿毘迦羅朋伽迦
善邊之山赤馬國    毘富羅山摩竭提
諸山悉滅人亦終    佛入涅槃壽命滅

以是義故,諸行無常,是生滅法。生滅滅已,寂滅為樂。

時諸比丘聞佛所說,歡喜奉行。

「一切行無常,一切行不恒、不安、變易之法。諸比丘!於一切行當生厭離、不樂、解脫。」

「諸比丘!過去世時此毘富羅山名長竹山,有諸人民圍遶山居,名低彌羅邑。低彌羅邑人壽四萬歲,低彌羅邑人上此山頂,四日乃得往反。時世有佛,名迦羅迦孫提如來、應、等正覺、明行足、善逝、世間解、無上士、調御丈夫、天人師、佛、世尊出興於世,說法教化,初、中、後善,善義善味,純一滿淨,梵行清白,開發顯示。彼長竹山於今名字亦滅,低彌羅聚落人民亦沒,彼佛如來已般涅槃。比丘!當知一切諸行皆悉無常、不恒、不安、變易之法,於一切行,當修厭離、離欲、解脫。」

「諸比丘!過去世時此毘富羅山名曰朋迦。時有人民遶山而居,名阿毘迦邑。彼時人民壽三萬歲,阿毘迦人上此山頂,經三日中乃得往反。時世有佛,名拘那含牟尼如來、應、等正覺、明行足、善逝、世間解、無上士、調御丈夫、天人師、佛、世尊出興於世,演說經法,初、中、後善,善義善味,純一滿淨,梵行清白,開發顯示。諸比丘!彼朋迦山名字久滅,阿毘迦邑人亦久亡沒,彼佛世尊亦般涅槃。如是,比丘!一切諸行皆悉無常、不恒、不安、變易之法,汝等比丘當修厭離、求樂、解脫。」

「諸比丘!過去世時此毘富羅山名宿波羅首,有諸人民遶山居止,名赤馬邑。人壽二萬歲,彼諸人民上此山頂,經二日中乃得往反。爾時有佛名曰迦葉如來、應供……乃至出興於世,演說經法,初、中、後善,善義善味,純一滿淨,梵行清白,開示顯現。比丘!當知宿波羅首山名字久滅,赤馬邑人亦久亡沒,彼佛世尊亦般涅槃。如是,比丘!一切諸行皆悉無常、不恒、不安、變易之法,是故,比丘!當修厭離、離欲、解脫。」

「諸比丘!今日此山名毘富羅,有諸人民遶山而居,名摩竭提國。此諸人民壽命百歲,善自消息,得滿百歲。摩竭提人上此山頂,須臾往反。我今於此得成如來、應、等正覺……乃至佛、世尊、演說正法,教化令得寂滅涅槃、正道、善逝、覺知。比丘!當知此毘富羅山名亦當磨滅,摩竭提人亦當亡沒,如來不久當般涅槃。如是,比丘!一切諸行悉皆無常、不恒、不安、變易之法,是故,比丘!當修厭離、離欲、解脫。」

爾時世尊即說偈言:

古昔長竹山    低彌羅村邑
次名朋迦山    阿毘迦聚落
宿波羅首山    聚落名赤馬
今毘富羅山    國名摩竭陀
名山悉磨滅    其人悉沒亡
諸佛般涅槃    有者無不盡
一切行無常    悉皆生滅法
有生無不盡    唯寂滅為樂


佛說此經已,諸比丘聞佛所說,歡喜奉行!

Vepullapabbatasuttaṃ

Ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā rājagahe viharati gijjhakūṭe pabbate. Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi– “bhikkhavo”ti. “Bhadante”ti te bhikkhū bhagavato paccassosuṃ. Bhagavā etadavoca–

“Anamataggoyaṃ, bhikkhave, saṃsāro. Pubbā koṭi na paññāyati avijjānīvaraṇānaṃ sattānaṃ taṇhāsaṃyojanānaṃ sandhāvataṃ saṃsarataṃ. Bhūtapubbaṃ, bhikkhave, imassa vepullassa pabbatassa ‘pācīnavaṃso’tveva samaññā udapādi. Tena kho pana, bhikkhave samayena manussānaṃ ‘tivarā’tveva samaññā udapādi. Tivarānaṃ, bhikkhave, manussānaṃ cattārīsa vassasahassāni āyuppamāṇaṃ ahosi. Tivarā, bhikkhave, manussā pācīnavaṃsaṃ pabbataṃ catūhena ārohanti, catūhena orohanti. Tena kho pana, bhikkhave samayena kakusandho bhagavā arahaṃ sammāsambuddho loke uppanno hoti. Kakusandhassa, bhikkhave, bhagavato arahato sammāsambuddhassa vidhurasañjīvaṃ nāma sāvakayugaṃ ahosi aggaṃ bhaddayugaṃ. Passatha, bhikkhave, sā cevimassa pabbatassa samaññā antarahitā, te ca manussā kālaṅkatā, so ca bhagavā parinibbuto. Evaṃ aniccā, bhikkhave, saṅkhārā; evaṃ addhuvā, bhikkhave, saṅkhārā; evaṃ anassāsikā, bhikkhave, saṅkhārā. Yāvañcidaṃ, bhikkhave, alameva sabbasaṅkhāresu nibbindituṃ, alaṃ virajjituṃ, alaṃ vimuccituṃ.

“Bhūtapubbaṃ bhikkhave, imassa vepullassa pabbatassa ‘vaṅkako’tveva samaññā udapādi. Tena kho pana, bhikkhave, samayena manussānaṃ ‘rohitassā’tveva samaññā udapādi. Rohitassānaṃ, bhikkhave, manussānaṃ tiṃsavassasahassāni āyuppamāṇaṃ ahosi. Rohitassā, bhikkhave, manussā vaṅkakaṃ pabbataṃ tīhena ārohanti, tīhena orohanti. Tena kho pana, bhikkhave, samayena koṇāgamano bhagavā arahaṃ sammāsambuddho loke uppanno hoti. Koṇāgamanassa, bhikkhave, bhagavato arahato sammāsambuddhassa bhiyyosuttaraṃ nāma sāvakayugaṃ ahosi aggaṃ bhaddayugaṃ. Passatha, bhikkhave, sā cevimassa pabbatassa samaññā antarahitā, te ca manussā kālaṅkatā, so ca bhagavā parinibbuto. Evaṃ aniccā, bhikkhave, saṅkhārā…pe… alaṃ vimuccituṃ.

“Bhūtapubbaṃ, bhikkhave, imassa vepullassa pabbatassa ‘supasso’tveva [var] samaññā udapādi. Tena kho pana, bhikkhave, samayena manussānaṃ ‘suppiyā’tveva [var] samaññā udapādi. Suppiyānaṃ, bhikkhave, manussānaṃ vīsativassasahassāni āyuppamāṇaṃ ahosi. Suppiyā, bhikkhave, manussā supassaṃ pabbataṃ dvīhena ārohanti, dvīhena orohanti. Tena kho pana, bhikkhave, samayena kassapo bhagavā arahaṃ sammāsambuddho loke uppanno hoti. Kassapassa, bhikkhave, bhagavato arahato sammāsambuddhassa tissabhāradvājaṃ nāma sāvakayugaṃ ahosi aggaṃ bhaddayugaṃ. Passatha, bhikkhave, sā cevimassa pabbatassa samaññā antarahitā, te ca manussā kālaṅkatā, so ca bhagavā parinibbuto. Evaṃ aniccā bhikkhave, saṅkhārā; evaṃ addhuvā, bhikkhave, saṅkhārā…pe… alaṃ vimuccituṃ.

“Etarahi kho pana, bhikkhave, imassa vepullassa pabbatassa ‘vepullo’tveva samaññā udapādi. Etarahi kho pana, bhikkhave, imesaṃ manussānaṃ ‘māgadhakā’tveva samaññā udapādi. Māgadhakānaṃ, bhikkhave, manussānaṃ appakaṃ āyuppamāṇaṃ parittaṃ lahukaṃ [var] ; yo ciraṃ jīvati so vassasataṃ appaṃ vā bhiyyo. Māgadhakā, bhikkhave, manussā vepullaṃ pabbataṃ muhuttena ārohanti muhuttena orohanti. Etarahi kho panāhaṃ, bhikkhave, arahaṃ sammāsambuddho loke uppanno. Mayhaṃ kho pana, bhikkhave, sāriputtamoggallānaṃ nāma sāvakayugaṃ aggaṃ bhaddayugaṃ. Bhavissati, bhikkhave, so samayo yā ayañcevimassa pabbatassa samaññā antaradhāyissati, ime ca manussā kālaṃ karissanti, ahañca parinibbāyissāmi. Evaṃ aniccā, bhikkhave, saṅkhārā; evaṃ addhuvā, bhikkhave, saṅkhārā; evaṃ anassāsikā, bhikkhave, saṅkhārā. Yāvañcidaṃ, bhikkhave, alameva sabbasaṅkhāresu nibbindituṃ, alaṃ virajjituṃ, alaṃ vimuccitun”ti.

Idamavoca bhagavā. Idaṃ vatvāna sugato athāparaṃ etadavoca satthā–

“Pācīnavaṃso tivarānaṃ, rohitassāna vaṅkako;
suppiyānaṃ supassoti, māgadhānañca vepullo.
“Aniccā vata saṅkhārā, uppādavayadhammino;
uppajjitvā nirujjhanti, tesaṃ vūpasamo sukho”ti.
