This file has been created in the project "A Digital Comparative Edition of the Bieyi za ahan jing" conducted at the Chung-hwa Institute for Buddhist Studies 中華佛學研究所 and the Dharma Drum Buddhist College 法鼓佛教研修學院. The project is funded by the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange 蔣經國國際學術交流基金會. The aim of the project is to produce a comparative digital edition and partial translation of the 364 sutras of the BZA and their parallels. The texts are kept in single files in an eXist database and are realized via XQuery and XSLT as HTML for the online user. The project lasts from 2005-2008. 如是我聞：一時佛遊摩竭提國，與千比丘俱，先是婆羅門耆舊有德，獲阿羅漢，諸漏已盡，盡諸有結，所作已辦，捨於重擔，逮得己利。如來往至善住天寺祠祀林中。

頻婆娑羅王聞佛到彼祠祀林間。時頻婆娑羅王即將騎 隊 乘 隊有萬八千，輦輿車乘萬有二千，婆羅門居士數千億萬，前後圍遶，往詣佛所。至佛所已，捨象、馬、車，釋其容飾，往至佛所，長跪合掌，白佛言：

世尊！我是摩竭提王──頻婆娑羅！

三自稱說。佛言：

如是，如是，摩竭提王──頻婆娑羅。

時頻婆娑羅禮佛足已，在一面坐。摩竭提國諸婆羅門及以長者禮佛足已，各前就坐。時此坐中或有舉手，或默然坐。爾時優樓頻螺迦葉坐於佛所。摩竭提人咸生疑惑，而作是念：

為佛是師，為優樓迦葉是師耶？

爾時世尊知摩竭提人深心所念，即以 偈 偈頌 偈問迦葉曰：

汝於優樓所久修事火法 今以何因緣卒得離斯業

優樓頻螺迦葉以偈答曰：

我先事火時貪嗜於美味 及以五欲色此皆是垢穢 以是故棄捨事火祠火法

爾時世尊復說偈言：

我知汝不樂五欲及色味 汝今所信樂當為人天說

尊者優樓頻螺迦葉復說偈言：

我先甚愚癡不識至真法 祠祀火苦行謂為解脫因 譬如生盲者不見解脫道 今遇大人龍示我正見法 今日始覩見無為正真迹 利益於一切調御令解脫 佛出現於世開示於真諦 令諸含生類咸得覩慧光

爾時世尊復說偈言：

汝今為善來所求事已得 汝有善思力能別最勝法 汝今應觀察大眾之深心 為其現神變使彼生敬信

尊者優樓頻螺迦葉即時入定，起諸神通，身昇虛空，坐、臥、經行，即於東方行、住、坐、臥，現四威儀。身上出水，身下出火；身下出水，身上出火。入火光三昧，出種種 色光 光色 色光，於其東方現其神變；南、西、北方，亦復如是。現神足已，在佛前住，頂禮佛足，合掌而言：

大聖世尊是我之 師，我於今者是佛之子。

佛言：

如是，如是，汝從我學，是我弟子。

佛復命言：

還就汝坐。

時摩竭提頻婆娑羅王聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
