如是我聞:一時佛在舍衛國 祇樹給孤獨園


爾時尊者摩訶迦葉住舊園林毘舍佉講堂。時尊者迦葉於日沒時從禪定起,往詣佛所,頂禮佛足,在一面坐。佛告迦葉:

「 汝可教授諸比丘等,為其說法。所以者何?我常教授,汝亦應爾。我 * 常為彼而說法要,汝亦應爾。」

迦葉白佛言:

「世尊!是諸比丘不能受語,難可教授!」

佛告迦葉:

「汝 * 何以故而不教授,為其說法?」

迦葉對曰:

「世尊是法根本,是法之導,法所依憑。善哉世尊願為敷演!我聞語已,至心受持!」

佛告迦葉:

「汝今善聽,受持憶念!吾當為汝分別解說。」

迦葉白佛:

* 唯然,世尊!願樂欲聞!」

佛告迦葉:

「昔有比丘,自修阿練若行,讚嘆修阿練若行者;自行乞食,著糞掃衣,讚嘆乞食,著糞掃衣者;少欲知足,常樂空閑寂靜之處,勤修精進,心不馳散,恒樂禪定;自盡諸漏,讚盡漏者。以是之故,一切比丘咸來親近,而問訊之。而此比丘語諸來者: 『善來,比丘!可就此座。汝名為何?是誰弟子?履行賢良,應沙門法。夫出家者,宜應如汝作於沙門。若見汝者,學汝所為,不久必當獲於己利!』 新學比丘覩斯事已,而作是念: 『彼有比丘,共相恭敬。我今亦當習學其行,自修阿練若行,讚嘆修阿練若行者;自行乞食,著糞掃衣,讚嘆乞食,著糞掃衣者;少欲知足,常樂空閑寂靜之處,勤修精進,心不馳散,恒樂禪定;自盡諸漏,讚盡漏者。以是之故,一切比丘咸來親近,安慰問訊。而此比丘語諸來者: 「善來,比丘!可就此坐。汝名為何?是誰弟子?履行賢良,應沙門法。出家之人宜應如汝,作於沙門。若見汝者,學汝所為,不久必當獲己義利!」 』 諸新學者若生是念,長夜利益,得義得樂,名自濟拔,能令正法得久住世。是人進趣,終不退沒。」

佛告迦葉:

「若有比丘,生則有福。初始出家,多得利養──衣服、湯藥、床敷臥具,四事豐饒。復有比丘,見是比丘,親近談語,安慰問訊。時此比丘語彼比丘: 『汝名何等?是誰弟子?生則有福,多得利養──衣服、湯藥、床敷臥具,四事豐饒。若有比丘,親近汝者,四事不乏。』 若有新學比丘,覩斯事已,應作是念: 『彼有生福,比丘共相恭敬。我今亦當修如是行,衣服、臥具、飲食、湯藥,四事供養,亦常豐饒。』 若新學比丘作如是意,學如是事已,是名長夜衰耗,都無利益及以利樂,非沙門法,受諸苦惱,名自輕毀。梵行不立,沒于淤泥,為惡所欺,具於結使,數受諸有,名生熱惱。獲得苦報,必當受於生、老、病、死。」


時大迦葉及諸比丘聞佛所說,歡喜奉行。

如是我聞:一時佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。


爾時尊者摩訶迦葉住舍衛國東園鹿子母講堂,晡時從禪覺,來詣佛所,稽首佛足,退坐一面。爾時世尊告摩訶迦葉:

「汝當為諸比丘說法、教誡、教授。所以者何?我常為諸比丘說法、教誡、教授,汝亦應爾。」

尊者摩訶迦葉白佛言:

「世尊!今諸比丘難可為說法、教誡、教授。有諸比丘,聞所說法不忍、不喜。」

佛告摩訶迦葉:

「汝何因緣作如是說?」

摩訶迦葉白佛言:

「世尊是法根、法眼、法依。唯願──世尊!──為諸比丘說法!諸比丘聞已,當受奉行!」

佛告迦葉:

「諦聽!善思!當為汝說。」

佛告迦葉:

「昔日阿練若比丘於阿練若比丘所歎說阿練若法,於乞食比丘所歎說乞食功德,於糞掃衣比丘所歎說糞掃衣功德。若少欲知足,修行遠離,精勤方便,正念正定,智慧漏盡,身作證比丘所隨其所行,讚歎稱說。迦葉!若於阿練若所歎說阿練若法,……(乃至)漏盡比丘所歎說漏盡身作證,若見其人,悉共語言: 『隨宜慰勞善來者!汝名何等?為誰弟子?』 讓座令坐,歎其賢善。如其法像類,有沙門義,有沙門欲。如是讚嘆時。若彼同住同遊者。則便決定隨順彼行。不久亦當同其所見。同其所欲。佛告迦葉。若是年少比丘見彼阿練若比丘來讚歎阿練若法。乃至漏盡身作證。彼年少比丘應起出迎。恭敬禮拜問訊。乃至彼同住者。不久當得自義饒益。如是恭敬者。長夜當得安樂饒益。佛告迦葉。今日比丘見彼來者。知見大德。能感財利.衣被.飲食.床臥.湯藥者。與共言語。恭敬問訊。歎言善來。何某名字。為誰弟子。歎其福德。能感大利.衣被.飲食.臥具.湯藥。若與尊者相習近者。亦當豐足衣被.飲食.臥具.湯藥。若復年少比丘見彼來者。大智大德。能感財利.衣被.飲食.臥具.湯藥者。疾起出迎。恭敬問訊。歎言善來大智大德。能感大利.衣被.飲食.臥具.湯藥。迦葉。如是年少比丘。長夜當得非義不饒益苦。如是。迦葉。斯等比丘為沙門患。為梵行溺。為大映障.惡不善法.煩惱之患。重受諸有。熾燃生死。未來苦報。生.老.病.死.憂.悲.苦惱。是故。迦葉。當如是學。為阿練若。於阿練若所。稱譽讚歎糞掃衣.乞食。少欲知足。修行遠離。精勤方便。正念正定。正智漏盡。身作證者。稱譽讚歎。當如是學。」


佛說此經已,尊者摩訶迦葉聞佛所說,歡喜隨喜,作禮而去。

Tatiya-ovādasuttaṃ

Rājagahe kalandakanivāpe [var] . Atha kho āyasmā mahākassapo yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdi. Ekamantaṃ nisinnaṃ kho āyasmantaṃ mahākassapaṃ bhagavā etadavoca– “ovada, kassapa, bhikkhū; karohi, kassapa, bhikkhūnaṃ dhammiṃ kathaṃ. Ahaṃ vā, kassapa, bhikkhūnaṃ ovadeyyaṃ tvaṃ vā; ahaṃ vā bhikkhūnaṃ dhammiṃ kathaṃ kareyyaṃ tvaṃ vā”ti.

“Dubbacā kho, bhante, etarahi bhikkhū, dovacassakaraṇehi dhammehi samannāgatā, akkhamā, appadakkhiṇaggāhino anusāsanīn”ti. “Tathā hi pana, kassapa, pubbe therā bhikkhū āraññikā ceva ahesuṃ āraññikattassa ca vaṇṇavādino, piṇḍapātikā ceva ahesuṃ piṇḍapātikattassa ca vaṇṇavādino paṃsukūlikā ceva ahesuṃ paṃsukūlikattassa ca vaṇṇavādino, tecīvarikā ceva ahesuṃ tecīvarikattassa ca vaṇṇavādino, appicchā ceva ahesuṃ appicchatāya ca vaṇṇavādino, santuṭṭhā ceva ahesuṃ santuṭṭhiyā ca vaṇṇavādino, pavivittā ceva ahesuṃ pavivekassa ca vaṇṇavādino, asaṃsaṭṭhā ceva ahesuṃ asaṃsaggassa ca vaṇṇavādino, āraddhavīriyā ceva ahesuṃ vīriyārambhassa ca vaṇṇavādino.

“Tatra yo hoti bhikkhu āraññiko ceva āraññikattassa ca vaṇṇavādī, piṇḍapātiko ceva piṇḍapātikattassa ca vaṇṇavādī, paṃsukūliko ceva paṃsukūlikattassa ca vaṇṇavādī, tecīvariko ceva tecīvarikattassa ca vaṇṇavādī, appiccho ceva appicchatāya ca vaṇṇavādī, santuṭṭho ceva santuṭṭhiyā ca vaṇṇavādī, pavivitto ceva pavivekassa ca vaṇṇavādī, asaṃsaṭṭho ceva asaṃsaggassa ca vaṇṇavādī, āraddhavīriyo ceva vīriyārambhassa ca vaṇṇavādī, taṃ therā bhikkhū āsanena nimantenti– ‘ehi, bhikkhu, ko nāmāyaṃ bhikkhu, bhaddako vatāyaṃ bhikkhu, sikkhākāmo vatāyaṃ bhikkhu; ehi, bhikkhu, idaṃ āsanaṃ nisīdāhī”’ti.

“Tatra, kassapa, navānaṃ bhikkhūnaṃ evaṃ hoti– ‘yo kira so hoti bhikkhu āraññiko ceva āraññikattassa ca vaṇṇavādī, piṇḍapātiko ceva…pe… paṃsukūliko ceva… tecīvariko ceva… appiccho ceva… santuṭṭho ceva… pavivitto ceva… asaṃsaṭṭho ceva… āraddhavīriyo ceva vīriyārambhassa ca vaṇṇavādī, taṃ therā bhikkhū āsanena nimantenti– ehi, bhikkhu, ko nāmāyaṃ bhikkhu, bhaddako vatāyaṃ bhikkhu, sikkhākāmo vatāyaṃ bhikkhu; ehi, bhikkhu, idaṃ āsanaṃ nisīdāhī’ti. Te tathattāya paṭipajjanti; tesaṃ taṃ hoti dīgharattaṃ hitāya sukhāya.

“Etarahi pana, kassapa, therā bhikkhū na ceva āraññikā na ca āraññikattassa vaṇṇavādino, na ceva piṇḍapātikā na ca piṇḍapātikattassa vaṇṇavādino, na ceva paṃsukūlikā na ca paṃsukūlikattassa vaṇṇavādino, na ceva tecīvarikā na ca tecīvarikattassa vaṇṇavādino, na ceva appicchā na ca appicchatāya vaṇṇavādino, na ceva santuṭṭhā na ca santuṭṭhiyā vaṇṇavādino, na ceva pavivittā na ca pavivekassa vaṇṇavādino, na ceva asaṃsaṭṭhā na ca asaṃsaggassa vaṇṇavādino na ceva āraddhavīriyā na ca vīriyārambhassa vaṇṇavādino.

“Tatra yo hoti bhikkhu ñāto yasassī lābhī cīvara-piṇḍapāta-senāsanagilānappaccayabhesajjaparikkhārānaṃ taṃ therā bhikkhū āsanena nimantenti– ‘ehi, bhikkhu, ko nāmāyaṃ bhikkhu, bhaddako vatāyaṃ bhikkhu, sabrahmacārikāmo vatāyaṃ bhikkhu; ehi, bhikkhu, idaṃ āsanaṃ nisīdāhī”’ti.

“Tatra, kassapa, navānaṃ bhikkhūnaṃ evaṃ hoti– ‘yo kira so hoti bhikkhu ñāto yasassī lābhī cīvara-piṇḍapāta-senāsana-gilānappaccayabhesajjaparikkhārānaṃ taṃ therā bhikkhū āsanena nimantenti– ehi, bhikkhu, ko nāmāyaṃ bhikkhu, bhaddako vatāyaṃ bhikkhu, sabrahmacārikāmo vatāyaṃ bhikkhu; ehi, bhikkhu, idaṃ āsanaṃ nisīdāhī’ti. Te tathattāya paṭipajjanti. Tesaṃ taṃ hoti dīgharattaṃ ahitāya dukkhāya. Yañhi taṃ, kassapa, sammā vadamāno vadeyya– ‘upaddutā brahmacārī brahmacārūpaddavena abhipatthanā [var] brahmacārī brahmacāri-abhipatthanenā’ti [var] , etarahi taṃ, kassapa, sammā vadamāno vadeyya– ‘upaddutā brahmacārī brahmacārūpaddavena abhipatthanā brahmacārī brahmacāri-abhipatthanenā”’ti.
